Bobby Bowden Wants On BCS Panel (ESPN)
Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden would like to be on a BCS committee that selects national championship playoff participants. “I would be willing to serve on it,” Bowden said Tuesday. “I think ex-coaches have a lot of wisdom. I watch the games. And I watch the game films on my iPad”…
Does Switching Athletics Conferences Lead to Academics Gains? (BC Interruption)
A new study from two University of Georgia doctoral students suggests that schools making athletics conference affiliation changes may also get a boost to academics. So it’s not just about the money? On average, colleges that moved to a new league saw about a 3-percent decrease in their admit rate (meaning they became more selective) and a 5-percent increase in their admission yield rate…
NC State Looking to Continue Momentum (ESPN’s ACC Blog)
NC State quietly accomplished something last season that was so impressive even former quarterback Philip Rivers took the time to acknowledge it. For the first time since 1992, the Wolfpack managed to beat Maryland, Clemson and North Carolina in the same year. “It’s been so long even Philip Rivers texted me about that,” coach Tom O’Brien said. “He knew that”…
Tech Must Commit to Football For Move to SEC (Collegiate Times)
In college football these days, the SEC is the place to be. It doesn’t matter if you’re a talented recruit or a school looking to join the conference that’s won the last six BCS national championships; the new trend is to head south. This gravitational pull of the NCAA’s premier football conference is so strong that in these slow summer months, the rumors start to swirl about potential new members for the conference…
N.C. State’s Woodson Eager For a College Football Playoff (News-Observer)
Randy Woodson sounds like a typical college football fan when he talks about the future of the sport’s postseason. Unlike most fans, Woodson, as N.C. State’s chancellor, will have a say in the playoff format college football will use after the current bowl and television contracts end after the 2013 season.”There’s a hunger in this country for a championship that isn’t completely derived from some formula”…
Ten Games That Could Change the BCS: Clemson at Florida State (Orlando Sentinel)
It doesn’t take much to derail a team’s chances at the BCS National Championship. A loss and by most accounts, your chances at a title are done. Two losses and by most rights, your chances for playing in a BCS bowl game are close to none. With that in mind, we look at ten games that could change the face of the BCS this season…
(NEW!) Featured Music Clip of the Day:

It wasn’t in here, but thanks for finding that Forbes Article about how the ACC sold its third tier TV rights to ESPN. I was floored when I saw that: how in the world is the ACC not saving those for the formation of their own conference network? Isn’t that the key to sustaining your conference?
At this point, the only thoughts I have are that the league works with ESPN to create a network with the tier-three rights (highly possible). Side note, however: the teams still retain tier-three rights for sports beyond football and basketball, so in my opinion, there’s still ample opportunity to create and effectively stock a conference-centric network. Of course, owning the tier-three rights themselves would be the ideal situation, but the conversation media-types are currently having about all tier-three rights (rather than just two sports) is flawed.
Thanks for correcting me. Yes, it’s good the ACC can start its own network, but it’s going to be hard without football, and especially basketball. Judging by the history of the Big 10 Network, you need fans complaining to their cable provider about not seeing their favorite teams (I have a friend who’s an Iowa State fan who still complains about the time BTN picked up an Iowa-Iowa State game four years after the fact).
