SB Nation’s 2012 college football season previews continue with this video on Virginia Tech‘s outlook for the year. Evaluating the Hokies, Bill Connelly wonders aloud if the team can complete its ninth straight season of 10 or more wins, how the running game will fare and if Logan Thomas has officially arrived as a superstar in the ACC.

I’m looking forward to the VT-FSU game in prime time on Thursday. I know it’s at VT, but they will be coming back on short rest after playing in Miami, while FSU will be coming off of a bye week.
Not only that, but FSU is expected to be a national contender this year, and for whatever reason (delusion, perhaps) I think they’ll be top-10 all season, and perhaps even squeak into the national title game.
The national title talk is aggressive, I’d agree, but at the same time, the schedule makes it possible. If FSU can get through the ACC slate unscathed, who’s going to stop them — Florida? The talent’s there on defense, but I’m curious to see what happens on offense. I’d contend they’ll be top-10 without fail, and could be on the fringe of that national title game conversation if they take care of business (as they should).
One thing that worries me a bit is that FSU’s schedule took a hit because West Virginia bailed out on them (in February 2012) and they could only schedule a second FCS team as a replacement. If whether or not they make the title game comes down to a computer ranking’s schedule strength, they’re in trouble.
FSU has been picked high for quite a few years, so a lot of folks are now saying “I’ll believe it when I see it.” It’s time for them to show up. I hope you’re right that they stay in the top 10 all season. The ACC has built a reputation of underachievement, and I hope this is the year it starts to get turned around.
Right. And it’s not just FSU. If Florida State goes 11-1 and finishes in the top 10, great. But we’ve got to have support under that. If Clemson and Virginia Tech can hold serve around the 15 and 20 spots, respectively, it’s a good start. But we really need to be boasting two and three teams among the top 12 every season.
