Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib is This Week’s ACC Player of the Week
Each week, we’ll be identifying the best ACC player from that weekend’s games. As always, it’s a completely arbitrary award with no specific criteria beyond the vague concept of “excellence.” No, we don’t take write-ins.
ACC Player of the Week, Week One: Ryan Nassib, QB/Syracuse
While his team ultimately fell to Northwestern, 42-41, it’s hard to claim the team’s quarterback deserved much of the blame. Down 22 points at one juncture, Syracuse looked hapless as a result of mental errors and an overall lack of discipline. But Nassib was determined to bring them back, and so he did. Even in an excruciating loss, the senior set school and conference passing records across the board, and has SU fans’ expectations through the roof. Completing 44 of 65 passes for 470 yards and four touchdowns will do that. Up to this point, we’ve only seen glimpses of Nassib’s ceiling. Now, with a new offensive scheme, it appears he may be on track for a season to remember. Obviously, it’s just one game, but all signs point to a great campaign for Nassib in his last year on campus.

470 yards passing by Nassib is certainly impressive. All four of this week’s players in the honorable mention list were also very impressive. Overall I’d have to say it was a good weekend in the (current and future) ACC, with the exception of Pittsburgh. There is no sunshine this week in Pittsburgh.
65 passing attempts? Yikes. Pile on those yards. BC’s QB had a boatload of yards too in a losing effort.
I agree, no joy in Pittsburgh. Losses to FCS teams are never good. Wake and Maryland barely scraped by against FCS teams, but their situations are a bit different in that Maryland is running a true freshman at QB. We’ll see how next week goes.
True. Overall, can’t really say anything positive about the close FCS games. Wake’s dealing with some injuries, but Tanner Price is still a really good quarterback. Pitt, though without Ray Graham and Rushel Shell, should have been able to put away Youngstown State. And Maryland is obviously dealing with their own set of injuries and has plenty of kinks to work out of that offense. We’ll learn more about all three next week. Curious to see the Deacs perform against UNC.
