It’s Official: Maryland is Big Ten-Bound, Will Join Conference in 2014 (Testudo Times)
Like it or lump it, it’s now happening: the University of Maryland’s Board of Regents voted earlier today to authorize the University to move from the ACC to the Big Ten, a move that was shortly followed by an approved application for Big Ten membership. The University is now the newest Big Ten school. Rutgers is expected to follow in short order as the conference’s 14th member…
Football has been the driving force in the waves of conference realignment that have washed over college sports for more than a year. Now there is something different. Schools better known for their basketball programs could be on the move: specifically St. John’s and Georgetown out of the Big East…
Hurricanes Second Self-Imposed Bowl Ban: Why? (State of the U)
Unprecedented: adjective – without previous instance; never before known or experienced; unexampled or unparalleled: an unprecedented event. The Miami Hurricanes football team is no stranger to the word. From nothing to a decade long powerhouse of college football. A 58 game home winning streak. The most draftees in the first round of the NFL draft (6). The most consecutive years with a first round draft pick (14)…
No Matter What Happens to UConn, Realignment Only Ends One Way: Ugly (The UConn Blog)
I’ll tell you what, if I wasn’t a UConn fan since right about the time my voice broke and I realized girls were the exact opposite of “icky,” I would have a real hard time embracing college athletics at all right now. Is there anything more sickening than watching almost EVERYONE associated with college sports, from the media to the athletic directors to the school presidents, try and convince the world this industry — and that’s what it is — is about college kids and a good education…
Duke Coach David Cutcliffe Has No Interest in Replacing David Dooley at Tennessee (CBS Sports)
As Tennessee’s coaching search begins this week, one name that might have been on their list has publicly removed himself from consideration. Duke coach David Cutcliffe went out of his way during his Sunday media availability to assure fans on Sunday that he had no interest or intentions of returning to Knoxville to replace Derek Dooley. “I can tell you right now that I’m going to be coaching at Duke next year,” Cutcliffe said…
In the Big Ten, Maryland Sees Power in Numbers (Washington Post)
So now Maryland thinks it wants to join the Big Ten. Not surprisingly, the bottom line on such a deal would be — of course — the bottom line. There’s not a thing wrong with that. Here’s what the Big Ten will offer: First, and foremost, lots more money. The Big Ten TV package is already worth far more than the ACC TV package, and it is going to soar even more in 2017 when its primary rights are up for bid again…
No Sense in Reliving the Past as Maryland Chooses Between ACC and BIg Ten (The Sporting News)
In all the wailing, cursing, raging and finger-pointing that spread throughout the Maryland fan base in the wake of Saturday night’s Big Ten A-bomb, one theme ran through it all: How can Maryland just walk away from the Atlantic Coast Conference after 60 years? Doesn’t that history mean anything? It’s an appeal to emotion, to tradition, to nostalgia…
Today’s Featured Music Clip:

Today is a sad day for all ACC fans. Hopefully, this day will not have to be re-lived 12 more times…
I think if it’s relived more than a few more times, the league’s pretty much dead in the water. Not really enough options out there for more than four more to leave — unless the Big 12 decides it wants a southeast arm.
Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure. Every time I think realignment is over, something new happens.
