ACC’s Postseason a Complete Success (Rant Sports)

The ACC’s 2012-13 bowl season was, by all accounts, a complete success. Despite the fact that the conference only sent six teams to bowl games, four of those teams were able to win. The successful ACC postseason was capped on Tuesday night as Florida State defeated Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl. It was only the third BCS win by an ACC team during the BCS era…

Syracuse Football: The Problem With Evolution (Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician)

Doug Marrone is as good as gone. That caught your attention, right? It’s an easy attention grabber for Syracuse football fans, no doubt about it. That’s because over the last 24 hours we’ve seen the Tweets and read the reports, Marrone is set to interview with NFL teams — which includes Buffalo and Cleveland and the Syracuse head coach is on a number of other team’s radars. (Bill Parcells is backing the man, for crying out loud!)…

Tajh Boyd Brilliant in Clemson’s Comeback Win Over LSU; NFL Decision Next (Daily Press)

Like Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, Tajh Boyd absorbed untold punishment from LSU’s defense. Unlike Texas A&M’s freshman-for-the-ages, Boyd endured, stayed turnover-free and rallied his team to a stirring victory. In so doing Monday night, Boyd authored the signature performance of this ACC football season, vaulted Clemson into top-10 consideration and made his looming NFL decision all the more curious…

On “Feelingsball” and Expectations (Shakin’ the Southland)

Lots of folks have made fuss over STS not coddling their feelings after the great bowl victory over LSU. They complain that we are “so negative we cannot enjoy a win,” which cannot be further from the truth. I’m happy as hell we beat a Top 10 team in a bowl game, but that does not mean we stop analyzing the causes for the 25-24 result, and it doesn’t mean we begin accepting that Dabo Swinney’s decisions are akin to God’s decisions, or that there is still no room for improvement in this program…

Six Things Louisville Must Do to Beat Florida (Card Chronicle)

Louisville is the underdog. Florida is maybe one bad fumble away from playing in the National Championship, and Louisville is a heroic performance away from a December bowl game. There’s nothing wrong with being the underdog. Ask West Virginia. The greatest thing about football is that on any given day, either team can win. There are so many variables, and bowl games show that every year…

2012 Duke Football: A Successful Campaign? (News & Observer)

In a few hours, the 2012 football season will officially reach its end for the Triangle area (N.C. State plays Vanderbilt at noon in the Music City Bowl, if you weren’t aware). And, now that we’ve had a few days to process Duke’s 48-34 loss to Cincinnati in the Belk Bowl (story here, if you need a refresher), it’s worth reflecting on the season that was. Conner Vernon was asked to do this right after the loss to Cincinnati, Duke’s fifth loss in a row…

Retirement Not in Ex-UVA Coach Al Groh’s Vocabulary (The Roanoke Times)

Two months after his departure from the football coaching scene, Al Groh isn’t sitting in an easy chair, waiting for the phone to ring. When located on a December morning, Groh was getting into his car after his daily two-hour stop at an Atlanta health club. “I had another of my ridiculous workouts,” said Groh, who spends 40 minutes on a Stairmaster, followed by 40 minutes on a rowing machine. “I’m ready for the Senior Olympics right now”…

  1. ACC’s finally getting some love from Rant Sports, eh?
Well-deserved, too; not only was the bowl season “a complete success” for the league, it was also the BEST of any power conference (so far). Yes, that’s right – the BEST! Exhibit A:

    ACC* 5-2 (71%) 2.5 games remaining
    SEC 3-2 (60%) 4 games to play
    B12 4-3 (57%) 2 games remain
    Pac 2-4 (33%) 1 game remaining
    B1G 2-5 (29%) done. really, really done.

    * NOTE: I’m counting future teams Syracuse, U of L, and Pitt as ACC teams, Notre Dame as 0.5 of an ACC team, and Rutgers as a Big Ten team.

    • Would love to see the Big 12 finish 4-5 after that nonsensical Oklahoman article from last week. At some point the B1G has to be put on display for its horrendous bowl record — especially when the ACC was in a similar position (two of its top teams ineligible), and it still came out with a better record.
